Biography
Born at Tongji hospital in Wuhan, China on August 25, 1987, Liu's birthname was An Feng (Traditional Chinese: °²ïL; Simplified Chinese: °²·ç).[2] Her father was a university professor while her mother was a dancer and a stage performer. They divorced when she was 7 years old. After her parents' divorce, Liu lived with her mother, Liu Xiao Li (Traditional Chinese: „¢•ÔÀò; Simplified Chinese: ÁõÏþÀò) and her name was changed to Liu Xi Mei Zi. She began modelling at the age of 8 and was trained in singing, dancing and the piano. Moving to the United States in 1998 with her mother, Liu lived there for four years. She returned to China in June 2002 to pursue an acting career and adopted her stage name Liu Yi Fei. In September 2002, she was accepted into the Performance Institute of Beijing Film Academy at the age of 15, She graduated from the Beijing Film Academy in July 2006.

She was backed by Jinyong, who felt that she had all the necessary qualities to play the role of the young and innocent "Xiaolongn¨¹".[3] Although the drama serials she has acted in were well-received, the movies she starred in, did poorly in terms of box office takings.

In conjunction with her acting career, Liu obtained a recording contract with Sony Music Entertainment Japan in August 2005 and has studied singing and dancing in Japan since then.[4] She released her first single "Mayonaka no Door" with Sony Music on July 19, 2006. Vietnamese Women Contest 2007

Mai Phýõng Thúy (August 6, 1988) was crowned the 10th Miss Vietnam at the Vinpearl Resort in Nha Trang, Vietnam on August 26, 2006. She competed for Vietnam at the Miss World 2006 pageant in Warsaw, Poland on September 30th, in the Asia-Pacific group. She made the top 17 by winning the viewer's votes around the world.

Ayumi Suffers Mid-Performance Wardrobe Malfunction:

Singer Ayumi had to rush off stage during a live broadcast of M-Countdown at a stadium in Deungchondong, Seoul after her bra came undone and fell off at the height of an particularly intense dance routine. The incident occurred Thursday night at about 7:30 p.m., leaving the singer unable to complete her dance number. Baring more than usual, Ayumi dashed down the stairs beside the stage and with the help of her manager was able to patch things up, making it back on stage in time for the song’s final verse.

What caught the most attention however, was the unprecedented level of exposure. She had put a scrap of metallic fabric covering her bra initially when she took to the stage to debut her sizzling dance number. “It looked like she was really getting into the dance, and that’s why the accident occurred,” her manager said. “As this was her comeback performance, she was wearing very revealing clothes. Things will be different from now on.”

Yukari Kuzuya is a professional model from Aichi Prefecture in Japan. She was notable for winning the title of Miss Universe Japan 2005 in Tokyo, and her following participation in the Miss Universe pageant held in Bangkok, Thailand.

During the pageant weeks in Bangkok, she was one of the favourites cited by pageant fans to be named as one of the top 15 semifinalists, so it came as a shock to many when she failed to make the first cut.

Fans speculated that the exclusion was attributed by her 'streetwear' styled gown which cost her a place in the semifinal. One of the pageant sites, despite including her as one of their predicted semifinalists, labaled her gown as 'outrageous'.[1]

Kurara Chibana (’m‰Ô ‚­‚ç‚ç, Chibana Kurara?) was born on March 27, 1982, is a native of Naha City (the capital of Okinawa Prefecture). She competed in Miss Universe 2006 and ended up Miss Universe 2006 1st Runner-up. She was an educational-philosophy student at Sophia University. She got her BA degree in 2006.

She turned down a job offer from Japanese publishing company in order to compete in Miss Universe Japan pageant, which was held on April 25, 2006 in Tokyo. Kurara now works as a feature reporter, flying around the world to interview unique people for a leading fashion magazine in Japan. She writes and takes photos of their lifestyles.[1]

Chibana is known for her participation in Miss Universe 2006 where she represented Japan. She won the best national costume award for her samurai/ninja outfit designed by the artist Yuichi Miyagawa and later became the first runner-up for Miss Universe 2006.

Kit-Yee (Kitty) Man is a 5th-year master's student of International Economics and Finance at Tilburg University. There is something special about her. In summer 2005, she participated in the Miss Hong Kong Beauty Pageant. She was selected as a semi-finalist (top 10) in the competition and was voted 3rd by the public. So tell me more about you and the Miss HK Pageant. Why did you participate in this competition?

Thanks to the structure of the master's programme, I was free from lectures in the last semester. That gave me the chance to do research for my thesis in Asia and the time to participate in the Miss Hong Kong beauty contest. I knew it would require tremendous courage but the thought of adding something extraordinary to my simple life excited me. The contest helped me discover my other talents besides academic excellence. Not only did the training and lectures develop my character, but the charity events I was involved in during the pageant were also meaningful and a good way of spending time.
Each year the Miss Hong Kong pageant visits other countries. Since I enjoy travelling, this was another reason for me to participate in the contest.
My motivation was simply to take on a challenge, to see if I could handle the pressure, to meet more friends, and to gain an unusual experience.

What was your life like as a student at Tilburg University?

I had a fairly active student life in Tilburg,. I went to parties occasionally, and helped found a financial club and an international committee of an existing student organization. I was on exchange to the University of Iowa in the USA during my 3rd year of study. Furthermore, I spent much of my holidays and weekends travelling. I went to Korea, Japan, Hong Kong, Australia, Belgium, Germany, France, London, the U.S., etc.

Did this experience impact your life and lead to big changes?

It certainly did. If I had not returned to Asia for this contest, I would probably have graduated by now and found myself a finance-related job in Holland. I wouldn't have had the chance to do all that charity work, go to Maldives, and visit the tsunami-affected areas in Thailand and Sri Lanka. All the things I did during the pageant preparation were worthwhile and meaningful. It truly broadened my horizons and let me see the other side of life. I learned to work professionally with other contestants and crew members.

Our performances were often under intense pressure as our programmes were viewed live by millions of people and broadcast all over the world. I welcomed the challenges and enjoyed the experience tremendously. It's revealed my potential and made me a better person. I believe everyone should develop his or her own talents and interests.

What are your expectations of your life in 5 year's time?

I aim to live a fulfilled, vivid, and exciting life. I want to be happy, and acquire fame while maintaining my dignity. I want to spread happiness to people around me and contribute to the society I live in. Although life can be tough sometimes, I must hold a positive view always. I believe I'll have built up my own career, will be financially independent, and will live the life that I've always dreamt of. I'm confident that with hard work and my talents, I can achieve any realistic goals I set for myself.

Since you are an IEF student, will you seek a career in that field, or you will spend more time in show business?

Right now, I'm already working as an artist, TV programme host, and part-time model in Hong Kong. I aim to develop my career in show business first and later extend it to the financial field. To many people's surprise, what I've learned at Tilburg University is actually helping me in the show-biz world. For example, having an analytical mind, team-work skills, and being resourceful while doing research. My current job is providing me with plenty of learning opportunities too; it will help me to build on my existing knowledge and skills.

You were born in Holland. Do you consider yourself more Dutch or Hong Kongese?

Given that I've travelled all my life and grown up in a multicultural environment, I see myself as more of a world citizen. I'd call myself a Eurasian if such a word actually exists. I love embracing different cultures and I believe each culture has its virtues and attributes. The blending of East and West gives a very interesting equilibrium. [Lingxiao Qu]

Kikukawa Rei is more than just a pretty face. She is one of the few showbiz peple to have graduated from Tokyo University, the most pretigious third-level institution in Japan, and one of the hardest to get into. She had so much success as a model while still a student that, though she graduated with a degree in architecture, plans to go on to graduate school were put aside. Jang Nara (b. 18 March 1981) is a Korean singer and actress. As a child, Jang spent most of her childhood in her birthplace, Seoul, but appeared with her father in a play, Les Misérables, in her primary school days, thus sparking her interest to become an actress.

Jang also went on to become an advertisement model for some CF advertisements in her high school days before entering into the Department of Theater, the Faculty of the Art in Chungang University around March 2000. Korean movie ‘200 pounds beauty‘, starting Kim Ah Joong, just received 12 nominations at the 2007 Daejong (Grand Bell) Film Festival. That is more than the internationally famed film ‘The Host’.

Maybe I just don’t understand Korean as well as I think I do. I liked both movies but I don’t see what the deal is. Honestly, I have seen better movies.

The luminous Miss Korea, Honey Lee (24), wearing a 5000 dollar Hanbok designed by the famous Lee Il-soon, performs for the national costume competition in Mexico for the 2007 Miss Universe Pageant. Our girl has already been chosen by globalbeauties.com as the winner of the competition, but the pageant will make the official announcement of the winner on May 27th.

Could it be that the stunningly gorgeous Miss Honey Lee (24) (trans: Lee Ha-nee) missed out on Miss Universe crown because the translator flubbed up? Alert POPSEOUL! readers have pointed out that the translator made it sound that Miss Korea was a gold digger instead of the humanitarian motives for having a fat but endless wallet. If this is true, then the translator is defintitely at fault. As every good interpreter knows, translation is more of an art since the interpreter’s major role is to be sensitive as to how the speaker is being presented to others - therefore, literal translations or skipping out on words could be detrimental to the image of the speaker. However, the important thing here is that Honey Lee made it to the top 5 and that is quite a feat for Korea. Besides, Honey Lee left the competition with an extra $1,000 in her wallet and the honor of putting Korea back on the map in beauty contests. Congrats Honey.

There is always next year. Hopefully, Korea will make sure they get a better translator.

Honey Lee returns to home sweet home

The gorgeous Honey Lee (24) received a warm reception on her return home last week. However, the same situation cannot be said for her departure from Mexico where not a single soul (ok, perhaps a slight exaggeration) was there to say goodbye to the stunning 3rd runner up when she left for Korea. Back in Korea and looking oh so hot in faded jeans and a simple white jacket, she thanked her Korean fans for their support (yeah, that includes us!) at a press conference upon her arrival.

Honey Lee is currently a graduate student of traditional music (Kayageum).

Riyo Mori came, saw and won Miss Universe 2007 against all the odds. She won the crown of Miss Japan 2007 earlier and became the representative of Japan in Miss Universe 2007 competition. About the beauty of Riyo Mori, I would not say that she is one of the most beautiful Japanese women. I feel that she is not a very pretty woman in the conventional sense of beauty. However, it is her positive attitude and extrovert personality that make her very attractive. Her height is 5'8 and she is much taller than average Japanese women. The color of her eyes and hair are brown. Her eyes talk to you and they have a sense of emotion. Her eyes reflect that she is not indifferent towards life.
